All lifeguards must be certified by the National Lifeguard Society and are responsible for the general
supervision and safety of patrons in the pool area. They must maintain constant surveillance of patrons
in the water and on deck and enforce all pool rules. They are able to act quickly and appropriately to
provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency services. Lifeguards
oversee the maintenance of the swimming pool and work with Southwestern Public Health Inspector to
keep chemicals balanced and uphold health standards. They are also required to maintain cleanliness of
the swim area, the change rooms, complete daily pool vacuuming and chemical checks while keeping
accurate daily records. Provide first aid treatment if necessary to any persons needing assistance. Follow
all health and safety regulations. Through this job, the lifeguards will gain valuable life and professional
skills such as time management, communication, leadership, authority and career related experience
directly related to lifeguarding and emergency medical procedures.
