About the Position

Position Purpose: To mentor and lead Leader In Training (LIT) participants. Provide direction for the LIT each week, work alongside them, and invest in their growth as leaders and individuals. Implement an LIT program that provides leadership and discipleship training that fosters a stronger and more authentic relationship with Christ and greater confidence and competence in a leadership role.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Work alongside the LIT Coordinators to develop and lead Bible Study or discipleship program with LIT
  2. Recruit future LIT from campers or community, where potential is evident
  3. Work alongside the LIT Coordinators to mentor LIT in their personal, leadership, and spiritual growth
    1. Work to ensure LIT understand that they are valued members of our summer staff team and have a positive experience while at Kingswood
    2. Manage team dynamics and conflict resolution
    3. Teach basic skills such as cleaning, dishes, and serving meals, and using these as opportunities to grow LIT in their personal responsibility, initiative, leadership, and ability to work with a team
    4. Develop and deliver training sessions to intentionally teach, equip, and empower LIT in their leadership skills
  4. Be involved with various areas of camp programming

Requirements/Skills

  • Current CPR and Standard First Aid
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training an asset
  • Wilderness First Aid is an asset
  • Strong leadership capability and communication skills
  • Organizational and management skills
  • Comfortable leading a wilderness camping trip
  • Ability to create and implement programming
  • Passion for working with youth and mentoring
  • Ability to work with campers, other staff and parents
  • Ability to be adaptable and good at following instructions
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to manage conflict and deal with emergency situation

Other Responsibilities

  • Cooperate, communicate and work with co-leaders
  • Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the LIT
  • Promote trust, understanding and unity among the LIT
  • Lead a camping trip in collaboration with a co-leaders
  • Lead Bible Studies, prayer time and chapel time in accordance with Kingwood Camp’s Statement of Faith
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by Director
