Head Cabin Leader

Position: Head Cabin Leader

Job type: Full time, seasonal

Reports to: Assistant Director 

Dates: June 24 – August 24 + training weekends (May 24-26, June 7-9)

Wage: $400/week

Head Cabin Leaders will be hired to work directly on the front lines with children and youth. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: preparing and leading activities and games, as well as leading cabin groups to and from activities, and caring for campers wellbeing. During overnight camps, Head Cabin Leaders will oversee their cabin groups during the day, evening, and overnight. Heads are responsible for the direct care and leadership of 12-16 campers of varying ages and being a role model for 2 Cabin Leaders who are working under their direction. 

Responsibilities/Expectations:

• Be responsible for the general health and safety of campers
• Establish an atmosphere in which campers feel secure, happy, and included 
• Build relationships with children/youth in your cabin
• Assist in skill activities every day and be involved in all areas of the larger camp program (wide games, chapel, firesides, free time activities)
• Ensure campers adhere to camp rules 
• Act as a positive role model 
• Participate in all camp activities
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements: 

• At least 18 years old
• 2+ years experience working with Children
• First Aid/CPR C (asset)
• Strong desire to share Christ 
• A natural ability to love and work with children
• Flexibility, patience, endurance
• Agree and adhere to the Free Methodist Church in Canada Statement of Faith

Work Conditions

Long hours, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with minimal breaks during camps. Regular interaction with employees, management, campers, parents/guardians, and the general public. Physically demanding, standing and moving for long periods of time. Environments can be extremely loud. Working in extreme weather (heat, wind, rain, etc.). Prolonged standing, bending, walking, hiking; requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate camper/activity programs and the ability to lift up to 20 lbs; willing to work in camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to sun, heat, bugs etc.

Harbour Ridge is a ministry of Wesley Acres. Wesley Acres is a Christian Retreat Centre & Campground in association with the Free Methodist Church in Canada. Wesley Acres serves with excellence, the spiritual, educational, and recreational needs of all people equipping them for Christian service to their family, church and community.

Located in the heart of Prince Edward County just outside Bloomfield, Ontario, Wesley Acres is on the beautiful shores of West Lake overlooking the Sandbanks
