Head Cabin Leader

Position: Head Cabin Leader 

Job type: Full time, seasonal 

Reports to: Program Director

Dates: June 27 – August 16

Wage: $400/week + meals and accommodations 

Head Cabin leaders will be hired to work directly on the front lines with children and youth. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: setting up and leading activities and games, as well as leading cabin groups to and from activities, and caring for campers wellbeing. During overnight camps, Head cabin leaders help out and fill in where needed. They are responsible for covering breaks in the afternoons, and traveling with the group they are covering for. During day camps, they assist whatever group needs extra help. Heads are responsible for being a role model for the cabin leaders and campers. 

Responsibilities/Expectations:

• Be responsible for the general health and safety of campers
• Establish an atmosphere in which campers feel secure, happy, and included
• Build relationships with children/youth in your cabin
• Be involved in all areas of camp program
• Ensure campers adhere to rules
• Act as a positive role model
• Participate in all camp activities 
• Other duties as assigned 

Requirements:

• At least 18 years old
• 2+ years experience working with children and youth 
• First aid/CPR C (asset)
• Strong desire to share the Gospel
• An natural ability to love and work with children
• Flexibility, patience, endurance 
• Agree and adhere to the Free Methodist Church in Canada Statement of Faith.

Work conditions:

Long hours, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with minimal breaks during camps. Regular interaction with employees, management, campers, parents/guardians, and the general public. Physically demanding, standing and moving for long periods of time. Environments can be extremely loud. Working in extreme weather (heat, wind, rain, etc.). Prolonged standing, bending, walking, hiking; requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate camper/activity programs and the ability to lift up to 20lbs; willing to work in camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to sun, heat, bugs, etc.
