Position: Cabin Leader

Qualifications
- Follower of Jesus Christ. Your primary job is to share your faith with your campers, so it is required that you be a Christian yourself.
- Age/education: At least 20 years old for teen camps. At least 16 years old for children’s camps. Junior cabin leaders should be at least 15 and completed Grade 9/Sec 3.
- Training will be provided. DAFA or other camping certifications will be an asset.
- Speak either English or French. Be willing to operate in a bilingual context and be a good example for both English and French campers (eg. if you are English, be open to learning French songs and memory verses and vice-versa)
General Responsibilities
– Attend and participate in daily staff meeting;
-identify and meet camper needs:
1. Become familiar with the disposition and temperament of each participant.
2. Be aware of his/her campers locations at all times.
3. Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in the group.
4. Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences
success during camp.
5. Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or
concerns.
6. Recognize and utilize every opportunity, without exception, to give glory to
God by making His name great among the campers (this is their greatest
need).
-carry out camp programs.
1. Guide cabin or unit groups and individual campers in participating
successfully in all aspects of camp activities.
2. Carry out established roles for supervising camper health and enforcing
camp safety regulations.
3. Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers’ day including morning reveille,
cabin clean-up, meal times, rest hour, evening activities, getting ready for
bed, and after-hours duty as assigned.
4. Become familiar with and teach or lead an activity, as assigned during staff
training.
5. Lead cabin devotionals and be able to answer questions (or know where to
find answers)
-General responsibilities:
1. Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality,
sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners.
2. Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
3. Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy.
4. Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents.
5. Submit all required reports on time.
Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
Personal Accountability
All staff are required to:
-Adhere to the guidelines laid out in the “In Safe Hands” instructional video
-Be physically capable of lifting, running, climbing, jumping, etc.
-Understand and oblige to the rules and regulations policy both on and off site
-Maintain a strong devotional life during the summer. (If your devotional life
begins to suffer under the workload, please bring this to a higher up. You
spiritual fortitude is the only thing that will sustain you and make you useful in
this ministry, and the leadership is dedicated to ensuring you have time for it)
Provided
Cabin leaders are provided free food and lodging. You will live life with your campers, living in a dormitory room and eat in the dining hall.
Cabin leaders who work for a minimum of 4 weeks are eligible to apply for One Hope Canada’s Summer Missionary Assistance Program, allowing you to raise funds as a short term missionary. Cabin Leaders may also be eligible for a small honorarium from the camp.
